Sinaan and Ehsan, the two best friends behind the concept, have been candid from the get-go, introducing themselves as university dropouts who moved to Vancouver with one goal: open a cafe without investors, experience, or a backup plan. Needless to say, their keen eye for design, unique approach to content creation, and unyielding passion are already making up for it.
Rather than waiting for opening day, the 23 year old duo have taken to social media to document the renovation process, behind-the-scenes milestones, and day-to-day realities of building a business from the ground up. From construction updates to the health inspection countdown, their followers have been invited along for every step of the journey.
This kind of openness is refreshing. In an era where businesses frequently debut as polished, finished products, Tiny Twins has embraced the often messy, always exciting process of creating something new, and they’re taking it all in stride.
One of their most recent hiccups came about when someone created a google listing for the cafe, just to leave a one-star review… before they’ve even opened their doors to guests. To top it off, their beautiful cobalt blue tiled exterior had been struck with sharpie slander, reading “drug front” in scrawling letters. Rather than shying away from it all, the brothers turned to their already growing audience and documented the unwarranted hate. They had a reel posted to their feed within hours poking fun at the situation and commending the 1-star reviewer for their commitment to a preemptive smear campaign.
And the community they’ve been building behind the scenes? They showed up. Within 24-hours, the google listing was up to 4.9 stars, with over 150 commenters chiming in to defend the young owners’ efforts and offset the bad review.
But it doesn’t end there. Just when the community stepped up to help Tiny Twins recover their rating, Google wiped their listing clean - back to square one. But Sinaan and Ehsan’s levity is boundless. “Hated by strangers, hated by a trillion dollar company… honestly it seems like we’re on the right track” they quip on another reel while inviting their recurring window graffiti artist to opening day.
The café will open soon at 2985 Granville Street, bringing a fresh concept to the neighbourhood while introducing a space that already feels familiar to the people who've been following along through trial and tribulation online. If Tiny Twins’ social media is any indication, the opening won't simply mark the beginning of a new coffee shop—it'll be the next chapter in a story that hundreds of locals have already been following.
