On Wednesday, August 5th, The Shelf Concert + Buffet No. 59 welcomes Trinidad & Tobago-born artist Caleb Hart to Richmond’s Hestia Kitchen for an evening where the distance between performer and audience is measured in feet rather than rows of seats. Inspired by the spirit of NPR's iconic Tiny Desk Concerts, The Shelf has built a reputation around stripping live music back to its essentials with an after-hours feel. For Session No. 59, that philosophy pairs naturally with feature artist Caleb Hart’s reggae, soul, and Caribbean-influenced rhythms, and expressive storytelling that conveys messages of resilience and celebration in equal measure. With a warm, authentic stage presence that creates effortless connection throughout the room, guests can expect to be swept up with Caleb’s soulful island energy.
Unlike a traditional concert venue, The Shelf transforms Hestia Kitchen into a private listening room after regular dinner service has elapsed. The entire space is reserved exclusively for ticket holders, creating an atmosphere that feels more intimate than a typical show, and scaled down into something much more intentional. Every performance is recorded live, capturing not only the artists but also the audience's genuine reactions—the applause, the laughter, and the moments of silence that make each session unique. With the concert broken up into three sets with two 5-minute breaks between them, guests have plenty of time to grab another drink, enjoy the buffet, and chat without missing a beat.
The combination of concert and communal dining has become one of The Shelf's defining characteristics. Rather than treating food as a necessary post-concert pitstop, Hestia’s curated late-night buffet fuels evening's rhythm throughout, encouraging guests to connect with fellow music lovers while supporting local artists in a setting that values engagement over spectacle.
Attendance is limited to approximately 60 guests. There are no assigned seats, no VIP sections, and no barriers separating artists from their audience, only a shared appreciation for food, vibes, and live music presented in its most authentic form.
For all the talk about Vancouver’s notoriously sleepy nightlife, this is a much overdo reminder that cool things are in fact happening at 9:30pm on a random Wednesday night - you just have to look for them.
Tickets sit at a highly accessible $33 per guest, and each event is limited to 60 spots. Every session at The Shelf is a one night only affair - so don’t let yourself regret missing out on this one.
