Mates on Crates Feat. Tyson Reimer

G’day,

Those in the know, know where to go.

We’re excited to have just launched our latest episode of Mates on Crates, featuring Tyson Reimer, owner of Rumblefish. Born from a Squamish food truck in 2023 and landing permanently on East Hastings in July 2025, the room brings affordable West Coast seafood to a strip better known for destination dining. Rumblefish is all about local Ocean Wise fish, hand-cut fries, a proper happy hour, and a neighbourhood energy that feels equal parts industry hangout and family stop. Tyson has been shaping Vancouver dining for decades, from Cobra in Gastown to Deacon’s Corner and Peckinpah. Known for introducing Carolina barbecue to the city and for building restaurants with strong personality, he now focuses on doing seafood in a way most places avoid: accessible, casual, and everyday. It was a pleasure to sit down with Tyson to chat restaurant history, affordable seafood, student pricing, and why fish and chips can still be taken seriously, along with all of Tyson’s favourite spots.

Each time we do a Mates on Crates interview, our guests share up to twenty of their favourites with us. For each episode, only a handful of those favourites make it into the final two minute cut. In order to highlight all of our guest’s favourites, we are happy to share the full list of favourites right here.

Thanks for joining us, Tyson!

Head to Rumblefish for wallet-friendly seafood, late night specials, and a neighbourhood vibe that feels lived-in from day one. While there, be sure to try the grilled fish with beans and rice which are Tyson’s favourites.
