Mates on Crates Feat. Ron MacGillivray
G’day,
Those in the know, know where to go.
We’re excited to have just launched our latest episode of Mates on Crates, featuring Ron MacGillivray, owner, Fable Diner, Main and Broadway. Fable Diner opened in 2016 at 151 E Broadway and has become a neighbourhood staple known for hearty farm-to-table diner fare, all-day comfort food, and standout milkshakes, all served at one of Vancouver’s busiest corners. Ron is a Halifax-born hospitality lifer whose experience spans front of house, back of house, bartending, cooking, restaurant leadership, and building the wider Fable family. He brings a deeply practical operator’s perspective, a love of regulars, and a strong belief in restaurants as places of comfort, value, and community connection. It was a pleasure to sit down with Ron to chat about the ongoing Broadway construction and its impact on local businesses, the story behind Fable Diner and the wider Fable family, his path through Vancouver hospitality, memorable moments with guests like Guy Fieri, the vision for Fable’s future, and hear all of Ron’s favourites.
Each time we do a Mates on Crates interview, our guests share up to twenty of their favourites with us. For each episode, only a handful of those favourites make it into the final two minute cut. In order to highlight all of our guest’s favourites, we are happy to share the full list of favourites right here.
