Mates on Crates Feat. Oscar Holdago

G’day,

Those in the know, know where to go.

We’re excited to have just launched our latest episode of Mates on Crates, featuring Oscar Holgado, Head Chef at The Woodshed, Kin Kin, Australia. Once a dusty old woodshed beside the Kin Kin Hotel, the space has been transformed into a relaxed fine dining destination where guests can expect a seven course dinner cooked largely over fire, featuring hyper local produce. Thoughtfully concepted, it is an experience designed to feel as though you’re dining at a mate’s place, rather then staying the night at the hotel just steps away. Oscar is a UK-trained chef whose resume includes top kitchens in London, time at Coombeshead Farm in Cornwall, and a cooking style rooted in live fire, local producers, and collaborative menu development. It was a pleasure to sit down with Oscar to chat about his journey from London to rural Queensland, cooking with fire, building a destination restaurant in Kin Kin, and all of Oscar’s favourite spots.

Each time we do a Mates on Crates interview, our guests share up to twenty of their favourites with us. For each episode, only a handful of those favourites make it into the final two minute cut. In order to highlight all of our guest’s favourites, we are happy to share the full list of favourites right here.

Head to The Woodshed for a memorable, fire-led dining experience in the Noosa hinterland, where local produce, generous hospitality, and an overnight stay at the Kin Kin Hotel all come together beautifully. Bearing in mind the tasting menu rotates seasonally, if you discover the Yabby with corn and curry leaf look forward to those specially or if you are at the pub make sure to try the smoked pork and cheese sausage, these are Oscar’s favourites.
