Mates on Crates Feat. Johnny Wells

G’day,

Those in the know, know where to go.

We’re excited to have just launched our latest episode of Mates on Crates, featuring Johnny Wells, Executive Chef at Sempre Uno, North Vancouver. The latest chapter in a North Vancouver restaurant story that stretches back to 1981, at Sempre Uno guests can expect an elevated Italian experience with handmade dishes, thoughtful regional fusion, strong cocktails, polished service, and one of the most striking waterfront views in the Shipyards. Today the Corsi family’s legacy is still woven into the project, in no small part due to Johnny’s influence. Along his journey Johnny has opened the Opus Hotel, spent formative years at Brix & Mortar, and has been a mainstay at Sempre Uno since it opened three years ago, carrying forward the mentorship of Antonio Corsi. It was a pleasure to sit down with Johnny to chat about the legacy of Sempre Uno, the evolution of the North Vancouver dining scene, hospitality as an extension of home, and all of Johnny’s favourite spots.

Each time we do a Mates on Crates interview, our guests share up to twenty of their favourites with us. For each episode, only a handful of those favourites make it into the final two minute cut. In order to highlight all of our guest’s favourites, we are happy to share the full list of favourites right here.

Thanks for joining us, Johnny!

Head to Sempre Uno for a warm, elevated night out defined by polished hospitality, a beautiful room, a stellar patio, and a million dollar Shipyards view. While there, be sure to try the spaghetti AC or the bolognese with an Italian margarita, and indulge in one of the dessert standouts like the pistachio cheesecake or tiramisu cannoli, which are Johnny’s favourites.
