Mates on Crates Feat. Greg Dion
G’day,
Those in the know, know where to go.
We’re excited to have just launched our latest episode of Mates on Crates, featuring Greg Dion, Owner & Operator at Cockney Kings Kitsilano in Vancouver, BC. Serving classic English-style fish and chips since 1965, Cockney Kings has grown from its original North Burnaby shop into a beloved Lower Mainland institution known for crispy battered fish, fresh-cut chips, warm service, and a loyal community of regulars. The Kitsilano location brings that legacy to Cornwall Avenue, just a few minutes from the beach, with the kind of relaxed neighbourhood energy that makes fish and chips feel right at home by the water. Greg started with Cockney Kings as a teenager washing dishes, worked his way out of the dish pit and into the fryers, and was managing the store by 19. After a few departures, travels, and returns, he found his way back to the magic of fish and chips and has helped carry the Cockney Kings tradition into its newest chapter in Kits. It was a pleasure to sit down with Greg to chat fish and chips, Cockney slang, Kitsilano regulars, the secret to a perfect chip, and all of Greg’s favourite spots.
Each time we do a Mates on Crates interview, our guests share up to twenty of their favourites with us. For each episode, only a handful of those favourites make it into the final two minute cut.
