Mates on Crates Feat. Abbie Gluvic

G’day,

Those in the know, know where to go.

We’re excited to have just launched our latest episode of Mates on Crates, featuring Abbie Gluvic, Head Chef at Murmurs and Things in Vancouver, BC. After opening July 28, 2025, this intimate 15-seat restaurant has shifted from its original cafe concept into a Pacific Northwest-focused tasting menu and weekend lunch destination. Their constantly evolving menu features dishes constructed around locally foraged and sourced ingredients, along with a BC wine list to accompany. Guests can look forward to warm hospitality and an intimate, home-like atmosphere, with the restaurant also hosting nights for local musicians, clubs, and community groups. Chef Abbie studied culinary arts at VCC before working at Published on Main, travelling through Europe, and joining Savio Volpe, where she learned to thrive in a high-volume kitchen. Now at Murmurs and Things, she draws heavily on her childhood experience foraging local herbs, berries, and flowers, and using those ingredients to explore the flavours of the Pacific Northwest.

It was a pleasure to sit down with Abbie to chat about her culinary journey, the evolution of Murmurs and Things, her approach to local ingredients and foraging, the restaurant's tasting menus, brunch, BC wine program, and all of Abbie’s favourite spots.

Each time we do a Mates on Crates interview, our guests share up to twenty of their favourites with us. For each episode, only a handful of those favourites make it into the final two minute cut. In order to highlight all of our guest’s favourites, we are happy to share the full list of favourites right here.

Abbie’s favourites at Murmurs and Things:

  • Starter: Pho Cracker: Abbie's Vietnamese-inspired puffed rice and sesame cracker with cilantro cucumber sabayon, fudgel, jalapeños, carrots, fish sauce, white vinegar and beef crumb. Paired with the White Noise mocktail.

Brunch: Savoury waffle with marinated pork belly, apple caramel, fennel, walnut crumb, mixed greens, and cured egg yolk. Paired with house-brewed Honest to Pete coffee.
