Mates on Crates Feat. Eleanor Waterfall
G’day,
Those in the know, know where to go.
We’re excited to have just launched our latest episode of Mates on Crates, featuring Eleanor Waterfall, chef and owner of Cadeaux Bakery in Vancouver, BC. Cadeaux Bakery has been making breathtaking cakes and pastries for almost 15 years, opening its doors in January 2012. Eleanor grew up in her parents’ Chinese Canadian restaurant in the Okanagan before attending Dubrulle International Culinary & Hotel Institute of Canada, and embarking on a career that took her through Bearfoot in Whistler, Lumiere, Blue Water Cafe, Chambar, Feenie’s, and Cafe Medina, among others. She eventually went on to open Cadeaux Bakery: a Vancouver mainstay known for its cakes, pastries, and fully exposed kitchen that allows guests to see the care that goes into every aspect. Eleanor expertely combines pastry expertise with her artistic instincts, creating cakes that are as beautiful as they are delicious. Guests can expect celebration cakes, pastries, coffee, seasonal ice cream sandwiches and, coming in the fall, cake decorating and cooking classes.
It was a pleasure to sit down with Eleanor to chat about her journey through hospitality, the story behind Cadeaux, her approach to cakes and pastries, leadership, creativity, croissants, and all of Eleanor’s favourite spots.
Each time we do a Mates on Crates interview, our guests share up to twenty of their favourites with us. For each episode, only a handful of those favourites make it into the final two minute cut. In order to highlight all of our guest’s favourites, we are happy to share the full list of favourites right here.
