Mates on Crates Feat. Andrew Kong

G’day,

Those in the know, know where to go.

We’re excited to have just launched our latest episode of Mates on Crates, featuring Andrew Kong, Co-Owner & Operator of Bar Supernova in Vancouver’s Chinatown. Currently operating their playfully titled pop-up, “Dude, Where’s My Bar?” on the Keefer House rooftop while Bar Supernova’s permanent home is being completed below, Bar Supernova is already making waves with its inventive, waste-conscious approach to cocktails. Every drink is built around the idea of giving overlooked ingredients a second life, transforming everything from herb stems and rejected fruit, to oyster shells and prawn heads into exceptional cocktails. Guests can expect world-class hospitality, spectacular rooftop views, thoughtful snacks, and a welcoming atmosphere where every guest is greeted with a heartfelt “Hi, friends!”

Andrew has spent years building a reputation as one of Vancouver’s most innovative bartenders, most recently alongside business partner Max Curzon-Price at SUYO, where the duo became known for their story-driven cocktail program. Now, together with Chef Sean Kuzellis - fresh from acclaimed Australian restaurant Brae - they’re bringing an entirely new style of cocktail bar to Vancouver, centred around community, collaboration, and conscious hospitality.

Each time we do a Mates on Crates interview, our guests share up to twenty of their favourites with us. For each episode, only a handful of those favourites make it into the final two minute cut. In order to highlight all of our guest’s favourites, we are happy to share the full list of favourites right here.
